Rachel Mackey, MS, LPC, NCC (She/They)

About Me

I am a licensed therapist in Idaho and Wyoming with over a decade of experience working with people in many different settings. I am also a partner, dog parent, aunt, bird watcher, community member, and advocate. I grew up in rural Oklahoma and moved to the Pacific Northwest after graduating from Oklahoma State University in 2009. My journey of walking alongside others began as a wilderness therapy staff and Outward Bound instructor, though in many ways, I’ve been doing the work of connecting with people all my life. After 10 years of field work, I returned to graduate school and received my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a dual emphasis in Somatic Psychotherapy and Social Justice Counseling from Prescott College. Having worked in community mental health, with LGBTQIA+ folks in transition, survivors of intimate partner violence, and adolescent survivors of sexual abuse, I bring an eclectic mix of experience to my work.

When not working, you can find me, my partner, and our pup Ollie connecting with our community or the natural world through mountain biking, hiking, skiing, bird watching, and floating rivers.

My Philosophy

I am passionate about healing in relationship to the clients I work with, knowing we all have innate wisdom that sometimes needs to be just held and witnessed. I am especially drawn to working with Queer and Neurodivergent folks who are navigating the challenges of living their lives authentically. I bring warmth, curiosity, playfulness, and compassion to my work. I want to support you in following your own wisdom, and challenge the power structures that can be inherent in counselor-client relationships. This means I will work in collaboration with you to find the right diagnosis if needed.

Understanding that we experience the world through our bodies and nervous systems, I work with you to explore learned patterns and develop tools for regulation to find new ways of being and experiencing the world. I am trained as a Level 1 practitioner of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a certified EMDR clinician, and have received training in Internal Family Systems and Synergetic Play Therapy. I also have specialized training in working with the LGBTQIA+ population and Neurodivergent folks. If you are curious to learn more about these modalities you can visit:
